We all have it, the little critic in our brain, that sometimes just kicks in on its own. You know the one, the Debbie Downer in your mind that simply will not see the good in anything, in fact, somedays it is a struggle to just enjoy your morning coffee –or ‘shroom beverage.

There are several things you can do to lower the volume on that voice, if not turn it off -welllll almost completely.

  1. Journal to identify patterns – Journals can be used for all sorts of things. We tell ourselves our innermost secrets about the day. Explore feelings. Identify the people that really bug us, and those that brighten our day. The key here is to identify negative thought patterns and their triggers. You can do that by making a sort of pros and cons list. This bugs me, but I like this. Another important thing to identify is when and what triggered that negativity. That is so when a similar situation happens you are prepared and ready to make peace with it.
  2. Practice gratitude for no reason at all – Just pick random things to be grateful for. This develops the habit of looking for the positive things in life. Eventually, the mind will just begin humming along with gratitude. Journaling does help here, but it is not essential. Writing down things you are grateful for puts the mind in the right place to look for more things to be grateful for. It focuses the mind and teaches it how to find the positive. It’s an aid in accessing gratitude during the course of your day when you need it most. You’re creating a new habit. Instead of getting upset on a dime, gratitude is the go-to mood. The key here is to just find random things to be grateful for whenever you feel like it.
  3. Use affirmations – The 369 method of journaling a particular affirmation 3 times in the morning, 6 times in the evening and 9 times at night. Is a helpful tool, and yes in numerology the numbers 3, 6, and 9 are considered very powerful. But, this time the key is the focus on being one with that thought and allowing the universe to manifest it. Affirmations help to literally change the things that you think and develop a positive mindset. Creation happens according to what you think and feel. Affirmations and gratitude focus your mind and heart on creating a loving, harmonious life.
